Inspired by Seattle's dramatically shifting culture and yearning to connect to the new population of techno-savvy millennials influencing the cityscape, Kate Wallich is creating an evening-length dance and live music super-show. This must see, one-night event, commissioned by Velocity Dance Center, will include original music composed by Johnny Goss with musicians William Hayes, Kristian Garrard and Andrew JS performing alongside The YC at Seattle's historic Moore Theatre.

A Trans-narrative discourse on uneven ground | In Development

A Trans-narrative discourse... is a trans-continental research project between Kate Wallich and Christopher Roman, that will culminate in a new evening-length dance production.  Wallich, a 25 year old emerging choreographer with two evening-length works under her belt, and Roman, Associate Artistic Director of The Forsythe Company and accomplished dance artist in his own right, join together in an experiment of equality of voice and autonomy inside of process.

Splurge Land | Premiere April 2-5, 2015
On the Boards, Seattle

Kate Wallich blends the lush electronica of Johnny Goss (Cock & Swan), the "slacker art" of JD Banke, and her own unmistakable movement in an icy-cool investigation into the agonies and ecstasies of the post-internet generation. Wallich's brand of uber-contemporary movement is a precarious mix of pop-culture, constrained emotions, and club moves. Featuring dancers: Lavinia Vago, Matt Drews, Waldean Nelson and Kate Wallich.

Kate Wallich is a Seattle-based dance artist. In 2010, she began making dance performance and films primarily in collaboration with her company, The YC. Her work has been commissioned and presented nationally and internationally by On the Boards, Velocity Dance Center, The Rauschenberg Foundation, MANA Contemporary, Springboard Danse Montreal, Northwest Dance Project, Cornish College of the Arts, Henry Art Gallery, Bumbershoot, Conduit, City Arts and The Frye Art Museum among others. She has also taught workshops and held lecture-demonstrations around the collaborations involved in her work in Seattle, Montreal and New York. Kate has created 2 evening-length works; SuperEagle commissioned through Velocity Dance Center's Made In Seattle program and Splurge Land commissioned through On the Boards' Performance Production Program. She is among Seattle's top contemporary dance teachers, leading packed classes through her own brand of movement influenced heavily by gaga, improvisation, ballet and limon.

Kate has received awards and grants from 4Culture, Artist Trust, The Glenn H. Kawasaki Foundation and Seattle Magazine. She is honored to be named one of Dance Magazine's 25 to Watch in January 2015.
